Day 1. Longyearbyen (Spitsbergen), embarkation.
A small town Longyearbyen, honored to be the administrative capital of the Spitsbergen archipelago, is a starting point of our expedition. Visit Polar Museum, it will be a good start of your great arctic adventure. Embark the Sea Spirit in the afternoon and keep an eye for our first whales as we sail out of Isfjorden.
Day 2. Ny Alesund settlement Krossfjorden, 14th of July Glacier.
In the morning we visit the most northerly settlement in the world Ny Alesund. Founded in 1917 by a mining company the town now houses several research stations of different countries. The mooring mast used by Amundsen and Nobile in their airship flights to the North Pole embodies the great history of Arctic exploration. In the afternoon our ship enters the picturesque Krossfjorden. We board our Zodiacs to cruise along the Glacier of 14th of July. This place is remarkable for the beautiful view: blue ice, green slopes near the glacier, a colorful variety of wild flowers, and bird colonies on the nearby cliffs. An Arctic Fox is also here it patrols the base of the cliffs in case a chick falls from its nest.
Day 3-4. Greenland Sea.
Days at sea dont mean idleness and bore. Visit lectures and presentations of our expedition team and invited guests. Socialize with new friends in the cozy lounge of the ship. Or warm up your muscles in the gym before landings, hikings and other expedition activities in Greenland.
Days 5-7. Greenland National Park.
Our plan for the next days is exploring the fantastic spaces of Northeast Greenland National Park the world's largest and most northerly national park. We do our best to visit the different places of this fascinating, remote and hard-to-reach place of the High Arctic. However remember that this is a Real Expedition. We have to be flexible as the weather in the Arctic usually changes several times during the day. Our itinerary, landings and all other activities here are strongly dependent on ice and weather conditions.
Days 8-11. Scorsebysund.
Welcome to the worlds largest, and some say most beautiful fjord system Scorsebysund. If weather and ice conditions are favourable we plan to explore: abandoned Inuit settlement of Danmarks and Sydkap; some of the most stunning icebergs in Fonfjord, Harefjord, and Rypefjord; red-gold carpets of the tundra at Frederiksdal ; modern lifestyle above the Arctic Circle in Ittoqqortoormiit.
Day 12. Isafjordur (Iceland).
The Isafjorur fjord is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful in the country, mainly for its relief, forged by many very ancient basaltic flows. We visit a small town of Isafjorur honored to be the capital of the Western fjords. The local old wooden houses bear witness to its past as a major fishing port. Get a glimpse of the traditional everyday life in Isafjorur. Accompanied by a guide, we will walk around Isafjorur to experience the towns true spirit and meet the locals in their element. The towering steep mountains of the Western Fjords provide a perfect shelter for the lively harbour which is the heart of the town. For centuries Isafjorur has been the largest fishing town in the area and the centre for export and trade. Colourful houses decked with corrugated iron give the bustling centre a friendly and almost mythical aura. The main industry is fishing and the townsfolk rely heavily on that for their financial security. Through time Isafjorur has also played a significant role in Icelands national history and is still one of the most vibrant cultural centres in the country.
Day 13. Grundarfjordur village (Iceland).
Grundarfjordur is a typical Icelandic fishing village, framed by beautiful mountains. During guided tour around the settlement we observe how people live here face to face with nature.
Day 14. Reykjavik (Iceland), disembarkation.
We finish our journey with disembarkation in the capital of Iceland Reykjavik.
Please Note:
Itinerary, landings and all other activities during the cruise depend strongly on ice and weather conditions and are subject to the decisions of the Expedition Leader and the Captain of the vessel. Encounters with any mentioned wildlife cannot be guaranteed.
